Recommendations (from LinkedIn)

Over the years I have been fortunate enough to work with a lot of great people all over the world. Some have taken the time to write recommendations, and for that I am eternally grateful.

Creative Catalyst / Contractor

Jeff Birns
CEO / Creative Director at N-Fusion Interactive
I worked with Billy on a project in its final stages. He was always there whenever I needed him, anytime of day or night. A true professional and incredibly patient in managing all parties involved. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a individual that excels in both production and design.

Britton Mathews
Application Developer at Zonar Systems
Billy came in and really sealed the deal. We were struggling to get Leisure Suit Larry out the door and Billy tied all the loose ends together. He is a great closer. We were able to successfully launch the game on all the platforms we wanted on game day. I was there with Billy when we officially flipped the switch and made Leisure Suit Larry go live.

Tom King
Billy was brought in as a Chief Operations Officer for a publisher I was working for at the time. He dedicated himself entirely to a number of tasks that would ultimately improve the quality of service to the gaming community, and was able to offer solutions to a number of problems that fell under said publisher.

More impressive, beyond his management skills, Billy has the ability to be clear-headed and think of others in times of crisis. To me, this demonstrates a high level of restraint and a great sense of compassion and respect — invaluable assets for any team. I would recommend him to anyone.

Josh Mandel
Gameware & Multimedia Designer
Billy Joe is honest, industrious, and meticulous. Coming in at the end of a difficult and complex project, he was tireless in his efforts to get up to speed quickly and delineate the challenges and parameters we were working with, and to address all those challenges in an efficient and time-effective manner. I desperately wish we had had him on board for the entire project, and I’d happily work with him again any time.

Jeroen Dekkers
ProblemDesk Manager at Philips Healthcare
While working with Billy on Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded, it showed very quickly how driven, goal & detail-orientated he is. Billy took charge in differentiating the smaller issues from the larger ones at hand. Without his guidance LSLR would not have released as fast and high in quality as it did.

I’m looking forward to working with Billy again on any project!

Randall Ryan
Producer/Lead Composer at HamsterBall
There are many positive experiences I can say that I’ve had working with Billy; this is merely the latest one.

We were working on a game earlier this year and there were a number of problems with the publisher. Billy came on as a consultant to the publisher to try and fix things, and he managed to smooth things out and take care of a number of issues that it didn’t seem possible that neither he nor anyone else could fix.

Billy has that rare ability to first define the problem or need, making sure all parties understand the scope, parameters, and problem areas. He then lays out a road map of what will be done, again making sure all parties are on board. And most importantly, he executes.

Many of my colleagues also know Billy, and they all have wonderful things to report about him because Billy helps everyone and performs for everyone.

Billy is an excellent mentor! He gave me some really unique yet realistic advice on my career path, which really helped me start asking all the right questions. Because his experience spans every facet of game development from conception to release and beyond, I feel like I’m getting access multiple perspectives at the same time. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for professional advice of any kind!

John Arras
Game and App Programming
Billy has been working with my on my game Super Cute Animal Rumble (formerly Voracious Varmints). I developed the game and got it into a good state, but it was more of a hobby, rather than a business project. Billy has helped me to focus on the areas outside of core game development that are necessary to make a business that makes money.

During this process, he has refined the monetization strategies, use of platform features, and optimizations for search and virality. We have worked on word-of-mouth marketing, building communities and improving the initial user experience by looking beyond scripted tutorials. It’s about improving every part of the Acquisition/Retention/Monetization funnel.

There are a lot of things to know about the player-facing and business sides of making games, and Billy has a large amount of knowledge that he will use that knowledge to give you detailed, specific options and strategies for how to approach these issues. He does not come and give you a prescription for what to do. He will educate you on the issues, let you decide what’s best for your game, and then work with you on the implementation.

You need to hire Billy if you’re making games to get the “everything else” that you’re missing.

Billy is a one of kind person to work with. He has the desire and dedication that is needed in the gaming community. I had the distinct pleasure of working with him on the Texas Trading Card Premiere, in Austin Texas, on January 19th. If I did not have his guidance, vision and know-how, I fear I would not have made that event as successful as it was.

Billy Cain has an ability to lead studios that should be studied and written about. With extreme accuracy, he finds the potential in others in a way that emboldens them to bring stunning work to the project. Beyond his leadership, his creative force is an inspiration to many, and his designs have brought entertainment and delight to millions of real people. He continues to inspire others to do the same and they pay it forward in their daily lives.

In the years that I’ve known him, he’s been referred to as a “true hero”, “national treasure”, and “legend”. In conclusion, his games are great and I’m glad to have worked on them.

Billy has an enthusiasm that permeates everything he does and motivates the people around him. Tirelessly giving his best, he brings out the best in others through his experience, mentoring, and leadership. Billy makes the workplace lively, fun, and a comfortable place to be. He works hard to create a team that feels like a family and doesn’t just pay lip service to the importance of honesty and respect in a company. Anyone who works with Billy knows they can come to him with any questions, concerns or gripes and he’ll give you his time and attention. An excellent leader, its always nice to work with Billy.

January 17, 2011, Alicia reported to Billy Joe at Sneaky Games

John Arras
Game and App Programming
Billy is amazing to work with and knows an incredible amount about making games. He will do whatever needs to get done to keep the project moving, but his super power is that he can look at a game in whatever state it’s in and figure out “the next step” that needs be taken to push the game forward a bit more. Then he can convince the folks who need to take that step to carry it out and keep heading toward shipping. Repeat that enough and eventually you have a game.

Mark Bourland

If you were to describe Billy in one word, it would be “Passion”. Billy is passionate about everything he does and what he does best is make great games! Billy is one of the easiest guys to work with: focused and inspiring when it’s needed, relaxed and laid back when it’s not. Billy keeps his team motivated and on target while having fun the whole time. He’s been around the game dev block and then some. If you need a creative, energetic leader for your team, Billy rocks!

He has an innate ability to target the strengths and passions of those lucky enough to work at CMI and the resulting final projects clearly reflect these traits because everyone goes the “extra mile” to make the project gleam.
